North Carolina: New Sherrill Furniture Facility in Catawba County
Furniture company to add new production facility and 90 new jobs in Catawba County
Raleigh, NC (STL.News) Sherrill Furniture, a maker of premium furniture, will create 90 new jobs in Catawba County, Governor Roy Cooper announced today. The company will invest $ 2.9 million to open a new custom upholstery production plant in Conover.
“The furniture capital of the world is growing,” said Governor Cooper. “North Carolina companies like Sherrill Furniture understand the benefits of doing business in our state and we are grateful for their contributions to our communities and our economy.
Founded in Catawba County in 1945, Sherrill Furniture Company has maintained its heritage of manufacturing high quality custom furniture in America for over 75 years. The company’s upholstered and custom furniture portfolio includes nine brands of furniture for retailers and interior designers in all 50 states. Under the direction of Charles Sherrill, a third generation owner, the expansion of Sherrill Furniture will add a fifth production facility, and 140,000 square feet, to its list of upholstery and woodworking factories.
“Arrears in the furniture industry are at an all time high,” said Thad Monroe, president of Sherrill Furniture Company. “We are 100% focused on substantially reducing delivery times for our customers and are prepared to invest heavily to respond more quickly to orders for our products made in the United States. We appreciate the support and partnership we have received at national and local levels to achieve this same goal. “
“North Carolina continues to lead the nation’s furniture industry with manufacturing activity three times the national average,” said North Carolina Secretary of Commerce Machelle Baker Sanders. “With the largest furniture manufacturing workforce in the country, an extensive textile and wood supply chain, and an ideal location, we know Sherrill Furniture will continue to be successful for many years to come. “
Although salaries vary by position, the average salary for all new jobs will exceed the Catawba County average salary by $ 43,920. The total impact on the wage bill for the region is expected to reach over $ 3.9 million.
A performance-based grant of $ 150,000 from the One North Carolina Fund will help expand Sherrill Furniture in North Carolina. The One NC Fund provides financial assistance to local governments to help them attract economic investment and create jobs. Businesses do not receive money up front and must meet job creation and capital investment goals to be eligible for payment. All One NC grants require equivalent participation from local governments and any award is contingent upon meeting this condition.
“Congratulations to Sherrill Furniture on this next phase of growth,” said North Carolina Senator Dean Proctor. “This expansion will continue to grow our local economy and provide new opportunities for world-class talent in our community.
