If you have a house full of hardwood or laminate floors, like me, you know what a big cleaning job can be. Old-fashioned brooms and mops aren’t enough, but Swiffer Sweepers and WetJets make the job easier. However, the WetJet, in particular, has an annoying design flaw: you can’t open the bottle of cleaning solution to add more.
Okay, it’s more likely that it was designed that way to ensure you keep buying the expensive spray mop refills. It’s frustrating but understandable. And, don’t get me wrong, we love our WetJet mops just as much as the next person. They are convenient, can get into hard to reach areas and are effective in cleaning our floors.
But the price of those top-ups can start to add up. Don’t worry, though. If you haven’t seen it already, we’ve discovered a new hack that lets you remove the lid from the refill bottle so you can add your cleaning solution of choice.
Save money with this Swiffer Hack
The hack basically involves removing the lid of the refill container. There is a trick to removing it, however. You will need a cup of hot water.
Just put the refill bottle lid down in the mug, let it sit for about a minute, remove it and the lid will easily unscrew.

Another hack shows people using a wrench to remove the top of the container. However you decide to take the top off, it doesn’t really matter. What Is Important is the fact that you remove the lid and now you can add the cleanser you prefer to the refill bottle.
Save even more money by buying a concentrated cleaner. Aunt Fannie’s Floor Cleaner is an all-natural concentrated cleaner that is rated A by the Environmental Working Group. It works well on a variety of floors including hardwood, tile, concrete, linoleum, bamboo, vinyl and laminate. It also accepts pets.
Another tip is to buy a reusable mop pad. These washable towels are an eco-friendly answer to disposable towels. Just throw them in the washing machine after washing them and reuse them. You can even use a washcloth or an old kitchen towel in place of the mop pads if you’re short on cash.
The washable pads, concentrated cleanser, and WetJet hack should be all you need to cut costs while maintaining WetJet convenience.
