Formed waterproof domes, EVM to wrap in polythene for rain
Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In view of the rainy season and the congestion of the Nehru Stadium pitch, from where the voting materials will be distributed and received, waterproof domes are being constructed and the EVMs will be wrapped in polythene before handing them over at the polls.
The preparation for the elections to the municipal corporation and to the municipal councils of the district is about to be completed. The distribution of election materials to electoral parties will begin on the morning of July 5 for the polls to be held on July 6. Given the rainy season, extra precautions are taken.
Six giant waterproof domes were installed in the ground of Nehru Stadium with plywood flooring to keep slush and mud at bay.
Manish Singh, Collector and District Electoral Officer, informed that preparations have been made in such a way that the distribution and receipt of voting materials will not be affected even in the event of heavy rains.
Meanwhile, commissioning work for the EVMs is taking place under tight security at Nehru Stadium, where around two hundred and fifty workers are involved.
Earlier, Collector Singh reached Nehru Stadium and inspected preparations for commissioning works of EVM machines and distribution of voting materials. Additional Collector Abhay Bedekar, Additional Collector Ajay Dev Sharma, Deputy District Electoral Officer Munish Sikarwar and other officers were present on the occasion.
Collector Singh said the commissioning of EVMs is very important work for the upcoming city body elections. The arrangement for the distribution of voting materials at Nehru Stadium was made per constituency. Each assembly was assigned a color code. Cards will be given to those who bring EVMs, which will match this color code. He said voting materials from no more than 18 polling stations will be distributed from one counter, so they are not crowded. He said chairs would be placed in front of each ticket booth for voting parties to sit in. In view of the rain, polyethylene will also be given to voters to protect the EVM machine from water.
