ForestOne: Building a greener future, one responsible specification at a time
With a transition to mandatory zero carbon goals that will shape the way we design and build, it is imperative that manufacturers, suppliers and distributors are ready to meet the growing demand for sustainable building products. From reducing greenhouse gas emissions to ensuring that all elements of the supply chain are ethically sourced, transitioning to a less wasteful and more socially responsible industry is a complete challenge! Forward-looking organizations like ForestOne need no convincing!
As one of Australia’s largest independent distributors of sustainable wood panels, plywood and surfacing materials, ForestOne understands the sustainability challenges facing the A&D industry. “Public awareness around sustainability and net zero is growing at an exponential rate and driving demand for more sustainable design and construction,” says Ian Fankhanel, Managing Director of ForestOne. “With the new ForestOne line of sustainably sourced building decor, we’re ready to help A&D responsibly specify and create buildings that not only look great, but are also better for the environment.”
This commitment to sustainability dates back to ForestOne’s Australian origins over a century ago. Although the notion of sustainable forestry may not have been widespread at the time, ForestOne has always treated wood as a natural and renewable resource with immense potential if sourced legally and from sustainably managed and FSC® certified forests. or RW/PEFC Chain. custody (CoC).
In the field of decorative materials, the European manufacturer of wood products EGGER is a key sustainable partner for ForestOne. Backed by strong environmental credentials, EGGER’s range of laminates, wood panels and worktops have been a transformative part of ForestOne’s expansion into the decorative surfaces market. With a huge range of EGGER products offered by ForestOne, Australian interior designers now have a huge range of sustainable specification options to work with!
The ForestOne range of responsibly sourced surfacing materials is constantly evolving and has recently expanded into the flooring products market; EGGER GreenTec laminate flooring is an innovative product that will be launched in Australia in July. This pioneering product has an impressive environmental profile and is set to upend outdated perceptions surrounding laminate flooring!
New product launches aren’t the only path ForestOne is pursuing on its path to sustainability. “We are implementing a number of initiatives across the business which will help reduce the company’s reliance on non-renewable energy,” says Ian. “For example, ForestOne is deploying solar panels [panels] through its national network of warehouses. Over time, these upgrades are designed to increase our energy independence and reduce our carbon footprint. »
“To further reduce ForestOne’s reliance on non-renewable energy sources, we are introducing new battery-powered systems to our warehousing and logistics operations,” he adds. “In addition to this, our improved hybrid automobile fleet allows our sales forces to reduce fuel consumption while driving.”
But that’s not all. By 2024, the company plans to have a recycling program in place to help facilitate a circular economy for the products it distributes.
With its sustainable sourcing strategy, partnerships with like-minded suppliers and continuous improvement processes, ForestOne is working towards a more sustainable future for the building industry – one responsible specification at a time.
