9 Inexpensive Cloud Couch Dupes That Look and Feel Like the Real Thing

HR Cloud Couch FAQ

Why is the RH Cloud sofa so popular?

“It’s one of those products that feels like a real experience,” said Amber Guyton of Blessed Little Bungalow. People love how oversized and comfortable it is.

It helps that they may have seen and sat on it in person. Diners at RH’s rooftop restaurant must walk through the showroom first. “The Cloud Sofa is everywhere,” Guyton said.

And it’s as comfortable as it looks. “It’s like sitting on a cloud,” said Travis London of Studio London Co. “I mean, the couch is basically a huge pillow.”

What should I look for if I want a cheaper version of the RH Cloud Sofa?

London said imitation pillows is the most important future. “It has huge pillow backs” with down filling, he said, so if you want that softness, that’s what you should be looking for.

If you don’t want to have a whole new sofa, you can look for new pillows for your existing sofa instead. “By doing this you add more bounce and comfort factor,” London said. “So it’s a great way to do it on a budget.”

More generally, however, London said he loved his own RH sofa because it lasted a long time and he updated it with new fabrics as his tastes changed. “If you have good bones in a couch, you can consistently re-upholster the couch throughout its life,” he said.

Are there any features of the RH Cloud Sofa to avoid?

The Cloud Sofa’s deeper seat and 18.5-inch cushion height might not be for everyone, Guyton said.

“The clients that I have, they don’t want to feel like a little kid with their feet dangling off the couch,” she said. People with reduced mobility or joint problems may also want something higher and shallower.

Then there is the white or linen color that you often see on the Cloud sofa. “You definitely have to be aware of that with the loss of pets and children and markers and all that,” Guyton said. If you are looking for an everyday sofa, you might want to opt for a darker color. Otherwise, you risk ending up with a comfy couch you don’t feel comfortable in, she said.

What are the tips for buying a sofa online?

London and Guyton say it’s crucial to check out consumer reviews, especially if they include images of the sofa in their home.

The first thing to pay attention to is how people describe comfort, Guyton said. “If I can’t take a comfortable nap on my couch, I’m not going to invest in it,” she said. You’ll also want to pay attention to measurements, including seat width, depth, and height.

Some retailers also provide information on the wear resistance of a sofa. “Look at the Wyzenbeek test on the durability of a fabric,” said Paige Gray of Parker & Harlow Interiors. “The higher the better, but for upholstery I wouldn’t go below 30,000 for lightly used parts and 50,000 for more used sofas.”

Next, said London, look for a retailer with a really good return policy. That way, if you don’t like it or it doesn’t fit, you can return it with minimal hassle.

How long will it take to get my sofa?

Many sofas featured on our list do not ship for several months due to ongoing supply chain issues and high demand.

Guyton said it’s worth the wait to get what you want. “You don’t want to settle for something just to fill the space,” she said. “You want to know it will stand the test of time.”
