As noted in a 60 Minutes report that aired on March 1, 2015, certified tests show that Lumber Liquidators' Chinese-made laminate flooring has some of the highest formaldehyde levels that HPVA Laboratories® has ever seen. Some formaldehyde levels are more than six times above state standards.

Employees in China admit to falsely labeling the company's laminate flooring. CEO Thomas Sullivan stated that Lumber Liquidators will investigate the excessively high formaldehyde levels.

The U.S. Department of Justice may pursue criminal charges against Lumber Liquidators for importing illegally harvested wood. The company has been under federal investigation since 2013 when the Environmental Investigation Agency documented that Lumber Liquidators imported significant quantities of illegally-sourced Russian timber. Russian courts recently convicted a key Lumber Liquidators supplier of illegal harvesting. Senator Nelson of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation has also asked the federal government to investigate if the imported laminate poses a health risk.
